Child rapist finds victims as janitor and babysitter, sets videos of his crimes to music

A New York City babysitter who raped two children—and filmed some of the attacks—learned his fate this week.

Milton Narvaez, 36, was sentenced to 100 years to life in Manhattan Supreme Court on Friday. In November, Narvaez was convicted of 98 counts related to the abuse and molestation of two children.

According to the Gramercy Patch, Narvaez began babysitting for multiple Manhattan families that he met while he worked as a janitor. One of the children was six years old when Narvaez started sexually abusing him. Narvaez, who was paid to watch the child, repeatedly abused him for six years.

The New York Daily News reported that Narvaez had also victimized a little girl, as young as seven, in October 2011. Though her identity remains unknown, a video indicated that Narvaez abused the girl in the storage room of Eastern Diocese of the Armenian Church, where he worked as a janitor.

“He took something from these children that can never be returned,” Assistant District Attorney Heather Buchanan said of Narvaez.

Narvaez was arrested in 2015, as authorities investigated the dissemination of videos and pictures of children being sexually abused. During their investigation, they recovered footage of Narvaez sexually abusing children. The Patch reported that the babysitter would sometimes compile the videos and make montages set to music.

Defense attorney Glenn Hardy unsuccessfully pushed for a 10-year sentence, arguing that his client was sexually abused as a child by his father.

Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance said in November, “The children of this city will be safer with Milton Narvaez out of our homes and churches.”
