WATCH: Mom plowed into pole to prove to kids God is real, police say

An Atlanta, Georgia, mother was arrested his week for allegedly driving her car into a telephone pole with her two kids in the backseat to prove to them that God is real.

According to WSB-TV, Bahari Shaquille Warren, 25, and her two children, ages 5 and 7, were in the SUV at the time of Wednesday’s collision.

Police alleged that Warren told them she intentionally caused the crash to show her kids that God would protect them if they believe in him.

Video footage obtained by the station supposedly shows Warren driving northbound on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard before suddenly veering into the southbound lanes and driving head-on into a pole. Police were on the scene moments later.

In a videotaped conversation, police say the woman’s children recalled the moments leading up to the crash. One of her daughters told officers that her mother turned away before veering into the concrete pole.

“Her eyes was closed and she was saying, ‘Blah, blah, blah, I love God’. She didn’t want us to just have a car accident. She wanted us to know that God is real,” the girl said.

Law enforcement added that the mother instructed her kids to put on their seat belts seconds before she crashed the car. Police also noted that she didn’t appear frantic when officers arrived and got her out the vehicle.

“It could have been a lot worse. It could have been heavier traffic at the time, she could have hit the pole at such an angle that she did more damage to the car,” Norcross police Sergeant Eric Butynski told WSB-TV.

While no one was hurt in Wednesday’s accident, Warren was charged with two counts child cruelty and was released from jail after posting $22,000 bond. Meanwhile, the local news station reported that the children are in their grandparents’ care.
