‘I felt like the devil was possessing me’: Nanny who brutally butchered two kids was hearing ‘Satan’ command her, psychiatrist testifies

A New York nanny on trial for reportedly murdering two small children in 2012 says that she was “possessed” when the incident occurred, a psychiatrist said on Thursday.

New York Daily News reports that Dr. Karen Rosenbaum, a NewYork-based psychiatrist, testified at the Manhattan Supreme Court that during a chat with 55-year-old accused killer Yoselyn Ortega, the suspect told her that under “Satan’s” command, she stabbed Lulu and Leo Krim, 6 and 2, numerous times, killing both children.

“She finally told me …that voices told her to kill people, kill herself and eventually she told me they told her to kill the children.”

Ortega also reportedly complained that an evil presence was “getting stronger in the week prior” of the fatal stabbings, and that she began to feel “the devil was starting to overtake her (and) it was significantly worse” before allegedly killing the children in their parent’s apartment off of W. 75th St. in Manhattan.

“When the devil overtakes her, she has no choice in the matter,” Rosenbaum stated.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, Ortega’s lawyers indicated their client pleaded not guilty by reasons of insanity. Her attorneys asserted that the babysitter was simply too mentally unstable to be held liable for the monstrous killings.

Prosecutors, however, said that the suspect took careful steps and made out a detailed plan to brutally butcher the two young children. They also argued that since Ortega knew what she reportedly was wrong, she should be held legally responsible for her actions.

If the jury finds Ortega guilty, she faces life behind bars. Check back with CrimeOnline as we continue to provide coverage.
