Brother of pro ‘League of Legends’ player stabs parents, killing mother, when they try to comfort him over breakup: Police

A California man is in custody on suspicion of stabbing both his parents after they reportedly tried to console him during a bad break-up.

NBC Los Angeles reports that Yihong Peng was arrested in California on Saturday on suspicion of stabbing his mother to death and critically injuring his father in a shocking knife attack. According to a neighbor who spoke to NBC News, Peng, 30, had recently separated from his live-in girlfriend and his parents came to visit him as he was having a difficult time.

It is not yet clear what prompted Peng to attack his parents. Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene on Friday night to find the suspect carrying a bloody knife in the street near his apartment complex. Wei Ping Shen, 59, of San Clemente, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her husband, Guojon Peng, was hospitalized in critical condition.

The suspect reportedly tried to run from police, but they caught up to him. Peng was arrested and charged with murder on Saturday, and booked into the Orange County Jail on $1 million bond.

As ESPN reports, Peng is the older brother of well-known professional gamer Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng, a League of Legends player for Team Liquid. Yiliang, 24, addressed the tragedy in a Twitter post on Sunday.

“This weekend I received some terrible news. My older brother attacked both of my parents with a knife. As a result of this attack, my mom passed away and my dad was seriously hurt and is now recovering in hospital.

“I’m still processing this news and joining up with my dad and little brother to make sure they’re ok and the proper arrangements are being made. I’ll likely be quiet on social media while I work through this. I hope you all understand and support me as you always have in the past.”

The suspect’s father, Guojon Peng, is expected to survive.
