AMBER Alert: Police release ‘Hail Mary’ alert for toddler boy, still missing after police found his mother dead

The search for a missing New York baby resumed on Sunday for a third day after the boy’s mother was found deceased in a wooded area with her head chopped off on Thursday.

WIVB reports that an AMBER Alert was issued on Friday after 1-year-old Owen Hidalgo-Calderon, from Wayne County, New York. A day before the baby was reported missing, authorities found his mother, Selena, 18, deceased in a wooded area, wrapped in a plastic bag near a farm where she worked. Alberto Ebarado Gutierrez-Reyes, Selena’s boyfriend, is currently facing charges in connection with her death but has not yet been charged with murder.

According to police, surveillance footage located around the wooded trails caught Gutierrez-Reyes walking in the area while carrying a shovel. Authorities stated he later admitted to burying her body. Detectives believe the victim was killed in a home off of Joy Road, where she lived with Gutierrez-Reyes, according to the Democrat & Chronicle.

Meanwhile, officers are not confident that they’ll find little Owen alive and put out a “Hail Mary” alert. The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office indicated that they’re treating the incident as a recovery effort but continue to “hope for a miracle.”

Hundreds of searchers helped look for Owen over the weekend, including firefighters, EMS, Missing & Exploited Children, Sodus Ambulance, Wayne County Sheriff’s Offices,  Federation of Search and Rescue, and more.

Owen is described as a Hispanic male, standing about two feet tall and weighing 30 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes and needs asthma medication. As CrimeOnline previously reported, the little boy’s mother was said to be in the process being deported and was applying for asylum.

Gutierrez-Reyes is currently behind bars and charged with tampering with evidence.

Anyone with any information urged to call the Wayne County Sheriffs Department at (866) NYS-AMBER or call 911.
