Drunk ‘mom’ leaves infant daughter in scorching hot car while she boozes in the basement: Report

An Illinois mother is accused of leaving her 2-month-old daughter in a hot car while she was inside her home guzzling booze.

Police reportedly arrived at the East Chicago home on June 15 following reports of a disturbance. There, the baby’s father told officers that his daughter’s mother, Alejandra Feliciano, 34, had left their child in their van and was drinking in the basement, according to The Times of Northwest Indiana.

The father reportedly said he noticed that the infant was missing after returning from his older daughter’s gymnastics practice. Feliciano was allegedly oblivious to where the baby was.

The Times reported that the father ultimately ran to the family van, where he found the red-faced, sweating child strapped into her car seat. The police report stated that it was 90 degrees on the day in question.

Responding officers reportedly discovered Feliciano asleep in the basement next to a bottle of wine. Police said she went on to admit that she had been drinking all day and accidentally left the infant in the car after taking a trip to the liquor store.

While the 2-month-old was hospitalized and released, Feliciano was charged with neglect of a dependent resulting in bodily injury. The local newspaper reported that she was released after posting $2,000 bond.
