Convicted child molester beaten to death by fellow inmate within a week of his arrival to prison: Officials

A convicted California child molester is dead after another inmate reportedly beat him to death on Saturday, within days of the pedophile’s arrival to prison, authorities confirm.

The Daily Journal reports that Agustin Duran, 66, had only been at Wasco State Prison for a little over a week when 19-year-old inmate Andres Ayon began pummeling the pedophile’s face and chest. The incident occurred inside the prison on Saturday night, around 30 miles northwest of Bakersfield.

A California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) spokesperson stated that guards forced all prisoners to drop to the ground after noticing the pair fighting, but Ayon reportedly kept striking Duran, prompting authorities to pepper spray and detain him.

Duran was airlifted the hospital with significant injuries. He died the following day. Ayon had minor injuries after the ordeal.

According to CDCR, Duran was convicted in Los Angeles County of “lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14 years old,” and subsequently sentenced to 55 years to life behind bars. Ayon, who arrived at the prison on June  22, was serving six years for a felony robbery with a deadly weapon conviction.
