Drunk pregnant mom runs over husband & drags him 1,600 feet — with young daughter in the car

A South Carolina woman who was pregnant when she used her pickup truck to mow over her husband and drag him 1,600 feet was sentenced Thursday to 12 years in prison for the fatal January 2016 incident.

Taylor Louise Bright, 22, was intoxicated and admitted to using marijuana before killing her husband, John Bright, 25, during an argument. The couple’s 4-year-old daughter was in the truck at the time, according to the Independent Mail.

The pregnant woman continued to drive as her husband was trapped underneath the truck. People reported he died of chest and abdominal trauma after being dragged approximately 1,600 feet.

Police said they had been called to the Bright residence once in 2016 for a possible domestic dispute. However, the unspecified claim was determined to be unfounded.

After pleading guilty, Judge R. Scott Sprouse sentenced Taylor to 10 years for reckless homicide and 2 years for unlawful neglect of a child. She will be on probation for five years following her release.

“This case is a senseless tragedy that has forever impacted the lives of two families,” Solicitor David Wagner said, according to the Independent Mail. “Taylor Bright’s toxic combination of anger, alcohol and motor vehicles has left two children to grow up without either parent.”
