DEVELOPING: Siblings find 10-week-old baby sister dead in hot car, police say

Police in Missouri are investigating after a 10-week-old girl died Saturday in a hot car parked at a trailer park.

Cape Girardeau County Coroner’s Office has confirmed that the infant girl found dead at Parkwood Lake Estates trailer park died as a result of hyperthermia, according to the Southeast Missourian. Police said the girl’s siblings found her in her car seat and alerted their father. She was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Coroner Dennis Turner said it would be impossible to ascertain how long the infant was in the car without knowing the car’s internal temperature. The newspaper reported that Turner declined to further comment on the circumstances surrounding this case.

KFVS reported that coroner Jim Clifton said the infant’s death doesn’t appear to be suspicious. Authorities haven’t filed charges.

The Missouri infant is the 33rd child to die in a hot car this year, according to NoHeatStroke.org.
