Teen girl found hanging from a tree at elementary school: Report

Police are investigating the death of a teen girl who was reportedly found hanged from a tree on the property of an elementary school in Maryland.

Delmarva Now reports that police responded to an emergency call to find a 16-year-old girl dead of an apparent suicide at East Salisbury Elementary School on Monday morning.

The unidentified teen girl was reportedly a student at Wicomico High School, and was found hanging from a tree on the edge of the elementary school property.

The Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to the news outlet that the girl appears to have died from asphyxiation. Her death is believed to be the result of a suicide, though police are continuing to investigate the cause.

None of the elementary school students witnessed or were aware of the apparent suicide on the school property, Delmarva Now reports.

The school district has offered counseling services to any students in the district needing assistance.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss to our school community and extend our deepest sympathies to the family and all those impacted by this student’s tragic death. We will make every effort to help our students, staff and parents as they need,” Donna Hanlin, superintendent of schools, told Delmarva Now.

This is a developing story. CrimeOnline will provide further updates once more information is available.
