Robin Thicke accused of child abuse

Robin Thicke, the “Blurred Lines” singer, is fighting charges of child abuse involving his 6-year old son, Julian.

Thicke’s ex-wife, Paula Patton, 41, told the Court the singer — who along with Miley Cyrus made headlines for a raunchy performance at the 2013 MTV VMAs — has excessively spanked their son, according to court documents reviewed by The New York Daily News.

On Thursday, a judge denied Patton’s request to limit Thicke’s interactions with their son, according to People magazine. The pair has joint custody.

The Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services is investigating the allegations.

Thicke has overnight visitation with his son every Thursday, Friday and Saturday, reported The News. On Wednesday [Jan. 12] Thicke told the court that his ex-wife had texted him that Julian “is scared of you.”

Thicke denies the abuse allegations stating that his minor punishment of the boy is not abuse.

“On a very rare occasion and only as a last resort, I will use light spanking, but it is consistent with the law — open hand on the butt,” Thicke said in a court declaration reported The News. “This is the type of discipline to which Paula and I agreed during our marriage. I have never exceeded age-appropriate discipline, and thus never been an issue, nor has it been raised by Paula previously.”

Thicke told the court that Patton “holds residual anger” toward him. One reason is that she wasn’t invited to attend last year’s funeral of his father Alan Thicke, reported The News.

Patton has “become concerned about [Robin]’s drinking and drug use, as well as the forms of punishment he is using to discipline Julian” over the past year, according to documents obtained by People.

She claimed she had Julian show her how Thicke spanked him. The spanking apparently hurt – she responded with “ow,” and “Julian said it was worse than that,” reported People.

In addition, she said the boy’s “behavior has become very concerning.” He has “become very tense,” sometimes “what appears to be a trance” and speaks with a “slight stutter,” reported People.

Patton and Thicke, 39, were married in 2005. They met in 1991 when he was 14.
