A 78-year-old Atlanta man is accused of stabbing his roommate to death and stuffing the dead body in a closet.
Cleaster Atkins reportedly appeared at an Atlanta-area gas station last week with blood on his head, hands, and clothes. Atlanta police went to his apartment and found Kiwanis Brownlee dead there. The 64-year-old victim appeared to have died from stab wounds.
“First responding officers stated that blood was located in the living room, bathroom and one bedroom,” an officer wrote in a report obtained by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. According to the report, Brownlee “was located in the back bedroom closet with multiple stab wounds.”
A motive has not been determined, and police have not shared further details about the victim or the perpetrator. Atkins remains in a Dekalb County jail, held without bond. Atkins appears to have a criminal history. An excerpt from possible arrest reports for Brownlee could also be found online.
Late last year, Atlanta was placed on the list of Top 25 Murder Cities, according to data compiled from FBI’s Uniform Crime Report.
