Family grieves for young mom gunned down in KC triple slaying

Police are investigating a quintuple shooting which left three dead and two wounded—including a 2-year-old boy—in a Kansas City, Missouri, apartment complex.

KSDK reports Darrell E. Thomas, 29, Victoria Brown, 28, and Ali Brown, 20, (pictured) were killed in Thursday night’s gunfire. Along with an unidentified woman, Ali’s son Karson (pictured) was shot five times in his knee, chin, and arm.

“Doctors said he’s a miracle baby,” Ali’s brother, Trevor Brown, told KSDK. “It’s going to be a long road ahead for K [Karson]. It’s going to be a long road ahead for me, my mom and my dad, and everyone that knew Ali.”

Though Karson is expected to survive, Trevor told KCTV the toddler will have to undergo “reconstructive surgery [and] a lot of therapy.” The wounded woman is said to have sustained less serious injuries.

“I never thought I would have to bury my sister before my parents, ever,” Trent added.

Ashlyn Moeckli, who befriended Ali in high school, told KSHB the mom moved from St. Louis to Kansas City two years ago to raise her young son as she “wanted to live somewhere new and start off new.

“Any teaching moment we gave her, she just took it in and tried to be the best mom that she could for Karson,” Carissa Figgins commented. Figgins is the executive director of Sparrow’s Nest, a St. Louis-based home for pregnant teens where Ali previously lived.

The Kansas City Star reported that investigators haven’t disclosed what caused the shooting but said they’re seeking three men who were possibly seen in a black or blue four-door vehicle on the night in question.

Karson and Ali’s family started a GoFundMe on Saturday to cover “Ali Brown’s celebration of life, as well as all future needs for Karson.” As of Thursday night, the fundraiser has garnered $5,480.
