Ex-sheriff deputy charged with murdering wife

The former Los Angeles-area law enforcement officer is now behind bars

A former Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy has been arrested on suspicion he stabbed wife to death — while their two young children were in the home.

According to a sheriff’s department news release, police responded to a 911 call early Thursday morning about a “medical emergency” at a San Fernando home. There they found Deseret Favila, 33, stabbed and struggling to survive. Paramedics treated her at the scene, but were unable to revive her, and she was pronounced dead.

Favila’s husband Jorge Casas, 37, was immediately detained for questioning in his wife’s stabbing death. According to KTLA, the couple’s two young children were in the home at the time of the stabbing, along with other family members, but no one else at the scene was injured. Los Angeles County Sheriff Department Captain  Capt. Jeff Seroggin told KTLA that Casas was in the department for two years until he resigned in 2006 for unspecified “personal reasons.”

Cases has been charged with Favila’s death and is being held on a $2 million bond. The murder weapon has not yet been recovered, and no motive for the alleged murder has been reported. Cases is scheduled to appear in court on Monday morning.
