APB: Unknown assailant opens fire on police in Great Falls, VA

Police are asking for help in finding the suspect

Fairfax County police are on the hunt for an unknown assailant who unleashed a hail of bullets at a marked cruiser following an attempted traffic stop on Sunday.  The uniformed officer attempted to pull over a white, late-model four-door sedan last night at around midnight.  The shooting occurred on Georgetown Pike, approximately one mile east of Walker Road.

A Fairfax County police spokesperson states the vehicle was a late 1990s to early 2000s Mazda or Toyota.  It also sported black molding on its doors.

Police had hoped to obtain dash-cam video of the would-be cop shooter but the video was blurred due to weather.  They could see, however, that the driver took aim and fired through the sedan’s windshield directly at the officer’s cruiser,” said spokesperson Meeks.

Two shots struck the cruiser, missing the officer and the sedan took off.  It was last spotted speeding west on Georgetown Pike.

Police now seek the public’s help to locate he suspect vehicle, which would have major damage to the front windshield, and possible damage to the front passenger window.  If you have information about this threat on law enforcement, please call 703-691-2131.
