A puppy named Hercules stops a would-be attacker, saves his owner

Hero Rottweiler!

A 10-month-old Rottweiler named Hercules is being called a hero after biting a man who tried to assault his owner.

KHOU reports that the 110-pound pup jumped into action when an unidentified man grabbed his owner from behind on a popular trail in The Woodlands, Texas.

“He went around behind me and attacked him. I fell down. I was surprised because he’s sweet and loving. I didn’t know he would exhibit that side of him,” Catalina Humphrey, the dog’s owner, told the station.

The incident occurred on Saturday at 4 pm. According to KTRK, Hercules managed to take the assailant down before biting him. Humphrey described how the man got up and fled the scene shortly thereafter.

“The minute that he ran, I saw blood on the ground,” she said.

Investigators with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office took DNA from the dog’s mouth and a scratch from Humphrey’s shoulder.

Since the attack, Hercules has been working to comfort his shaken owner.

“I think he can sense that something is wrong and I’m sad because I’m still upset about everything. So he’s been really good about letting me know that it’s going to be okay when I feel down about what happened,” Humphrey said.

Though investigators are sweeping nearby hospitals for patients with dog bites, the suspect is still on the run. In turn, authorities have increased their presence at the trail.

Officials described the suspect as a 5-foot-10 Black man in his 20’s. He is clean-shaven and weighs approximately 175 pounds. He was wearing black jogging pants, a red shirt, and a black baseball hat at the time.

His motive is currently unclear and he isn’t believed to be tied to any other attacks.
