3 Washington people found dead inside burned home

Three people found dead in a burning Seabeck, Washington, home and a deceased man discovered in a charred truck were victims of a quadruple murder, officials announced Monday.

Authorities responded to “an incident and violence” call late on Jan. 27. After the fire was out and the home was ventilated, they found the bodies of Christale Lynn Careaga, 37, Johnathon F. Higgins, 16, and Hunter E. Schaap, 16, according to the Kitsap Daily News.

Described as a “large, blended family” by Kitsap County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Scott Wilson, John Careaga, 43, unaccounted for after the fire was under control. Authorities found human remains in a truck on the afternoon of Jan. 29, hours before officials announced the identities of the three bodies unearthed Friday. On Tuesday, remains were confirmed to be that of John’s.

A county fire marshal determined on Monday that both fires were intentionally set, according to KING 5. It is unclear who made the 911 call. However, neighbors allegedly told the station they heard gunshots on the evening in question but were unsure whether they’re related to this incident.

“All four persons died of homicidal violence. Detectives are actively continuing with the investigation, following up on all leads,” Kitsap County detectives commented in a news release. “In order to maintain the integrity of the investigation, specific details are not being released.”

A GoFundMe was started on Jan. 29 to offset funeral costs. As of Wednesday afternoon, the campaign has raised a little more than $9,000 of their $50,000 goal.

“This is the family that owns Juanitos Taco Shop on Kitsap Way, as you all know this family would do ANYTHING for anyone, they would give you the clothes off their backs, give you a place to stay and always welcomed you with open arms. They always hosted fundraisers for other families in time of need, as a community let’s help them as they always have helped us. Even if it’s $1, or even if you share this we greatly appreciate it! They really need support during this difficult time.”
