Love is Blind: Woman blinds her boyfriend by pouring sulfuric acid on his face

A Leicester, England woman was sentenced to a minimum of 17 years in prison after she attacked and blinded her boyfriend with sulfuric acid.

Heat Street reported that Daniel Rotariu, 31, was sleeping when his girlfriend Katie Leong, 52, came into his bedroom and poured half a liter bottle of 96 percent pure sulfuric acid on his face.

The woman was reportedly fixated on attacking someone with acid after learning about a model who was seriously disfigured by an acid attack 10 years ago. The woman, Katie Piper, is now working as a TV presenter.

Leong fantasied about acid attacks, and kept a copy of Piper’s book, Beautiful beside her bed.

Piper had acid thrown in her face in 2008 when her ex organized the assault on the model.

The report continued to read that Leong tested the acid on sausages before she threw it in her boyfriend’s face. The acid was strong enough that it melted into the sheets and pillow cases. She apparently tried to cover as much of the man’s face as she possibly could.

Justice Haddon-Cave told Leong during sentencing that she was a “highly manipulative, scheming and controlling person,” and called the havoc she wreaked on Rotariu’s life a “living catastrophe.”

As a result of the July 2016 attack,

, Rotariu had to spend 6 months in the hospital. He still has another 20 operations to go.

“I’m afraid I’m not going to have a relationship ever. I have to make plans, I can’t stay on benefits, I’ve worked all my life. I’m going to need another 20 operations. I’ve had over 5,000 tablets, I’ve counted them. It’s hard and sometimes I wish I was dead and I hadn’t survived.”

The Sun reported that Rotariu suffered burns from the attack on 32% of his body. The attack left him blind in both of his eyes.
