Disney’s Miracle star Michael Mantenuto was found deceased on Monday in Washington from an apparent suicide. His father revealed that the former actor fought in Iraq and Syria, which may have played a factor in his death.
Mantenuto was a Green Beret in the U.S. Army, and as part of Operation Inherent Resolve was deployed to both Iraq and Syria to fight ISIS during his last year in the military. His father, Joseph, reported that “something happened over there” that Mantenuto couldn’t shake off.
“Something happened over there. He saw something.”
The 35-year-old combat veteran reportedly came home to his wife and children as a different person. He also came home with an Achievement Medal and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.

The commander for Mantenuto’s 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne), Col. Guillaume “Will” Beaurpere, took to Facebook on Thursday, and recalled Mantenuto’s love and commitment to his family and the armed forces.
“Those of you that knew Mike will remember him for his passionate love for his family and his commitment to the health of the force.”
The Disney star is survived by his wife, Ava; two children, Ava and Leo; and parents, Joseph and Kerry.
The U.S. Army is currently running its own investigation into Mantenuto’s death. He was found inside his car with a single, self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head.
