Playboy Playmate Dani Mathers was ordered to stand trial for reportedly taking a Snapchat photo of a 70-year-old woman in California while at a gym. According to Mathers’ friend, the playmate, who’s accused of violating California’s privacy laws, is preparing herself for the possibility of going to jail.
Melissa Yanez (pictured right), who said she’s been friends with Mathers (pictured left) since they were young children, indicated that her friend has had ongoing depression in connection with a Snapchat incident last year. Mathers is accused of taking a photo of an elderly woman in July 2016, while the unnamed woman took a shower at an LA Fitness gym. Mathers shared the photo of the naked senior citizen on Snapchat. Mathers allegedly “body shamed” the elderly woman and joked about the woman’s appearance.

“If I can’t unsee this then you can’t either.”
Numerous people saw the Snapchat photo, but Mathers told a judge that she had no idea that the photo would go public. Patch reports that Mathers said she was new to Snapchat and didn’t know all of her followers would see it.
“That photo was taken to be a personal conversation with a girlfriend, and because I am new to Snapchat, I really didn’t realize that I had posted it and that was a huge mistake. I know that I have upset a lot of people out there, but please, please believe me when I say that this is not the type of person I am. I have never done this before. I will never do this again.”

Regardless, a judge didn’t buy the story and ordered Mathers to stand trial for her indiscretion. Yanez told the Mail that her friend is ready and willing to take responsibility for what she did, even if it means time behind bars.
“Dani’s willing to accept the mistake and wants to deal with it. She is worried, anyone would be. But at the same time, she doesn’t want this to haunt her for her whole life. If that’s what she has to do, that’s what she has to do.”
If found guilty, Mathers could face up to six months in jail, although many social media users have speculated that the 30-year-old will likely end up getting community service. Yanez said that Mathers would gladly take the jail time if it meant she could wipe the slate clean. The Playmate faced worldwide backlash for showing the photo which still haunts her today.
@DaniMathers 1 year later and you still have no clue of how horrible your actions were! Maybe you need to go to jail to learn that. #guilty #wakeup

“It’s really hard to get redemption in our culture. You can do a million good things but people only remember the one bad thing,” said Yarez.
Mathers is scheduled to return to a Los Angeles courtroom on Wednesday. She faces one count of criminal invasion of privacy.
