A high school graduation celebration turned tragic in Tennessee when an 18-year-old boy accidentally killed his girlfriend.

According to Fox Carolina, Arlington teen Lucinda Luna’s father gave her boyfriend, Brennan Fields, a gun as a graduation present. While Brennan was admiring his new gift at Luna’s home, he accidentally shot her in the stomach.

Lucinda later died at a hospital of her injuries.

Luna’s friend Kara Stubblefield told the news station that Brennan was experienced with guns and had previously owned firearms. He also trained at gun ranges, she said.

Local law enforcement believe the sudden death was an accident, and are not expected to press any charges.

“By all indications, there was no intent for this to happen,” Shelby County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Earle Farrell told Fox Carolina.

“This is going to hurt real bad for him [Fields]. Like he’s not going to get over this for a long time,” Stubblefield told the news station.

“I am just worried about Brennan really and her parents too.”
