9-year-old boy and parents missing after deadly fire; may be traveling at sea

A nine-year-old boy is missing and may be in danger after a deadly fire at his parents’ Florida home killed at least one person.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) issued a statewide missing persons alert for Sebastian Meachum of Malabar, Florida. He lives with his mother Chrissy Hughes, 39, and his step-father, Tony Hughes, 39, in a home that was destroyed by fire on Sunday.

Sebastian’s parents are also missing, and FDLE said in a news alert that the family may be traveling in a boat, and should not be approached if spotted.

Firefighters were called to the home late Sunday morning, and found one body in the house. The victim has not yet been identified, and investigators have not been able to thoroughly search the home due to damage from the fire.

“It was getting ready to collapse,” Tod Goodyear, a spokesman for the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, told the Orlando Sentinel. “It’s not stable enough to thoroughly search.”

Sebastian Meachum is a white nine-year-old boy with blond hair and blue eyes. His stepfather Tony Hughes was last seen wearing a black Harley Davidson t-shirt, blue jeans and black boots,

The FDLE said in a news alert the family may be traveling on a 2012, Nautic Global Group 18 foot boat, Florida tag number 3066P. Anyone who sees the family is urged to call the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office at 321-264-5217 or 911.
