‘I was stressed’: Missing Starbucks woman speaks out for first time since she was found

The Raleigh-Durham International Airport Starbucks employee who became the centerpiece of a national search after she disappeared, finally spoke out to a friend and gave a vague explanation on why she left her job and loved ones behind without saying a word.

Allison Cope simply walked away from her entire life on June 26, leaving behind her purse and cellphone when she went on break at her shift at Starbucks. She left with only her car and debit card, causing panic among her friends. RDU police released surveillance videos of Cope after she went to a gas station in Wake Forest shortly after she disappeared. She didn’t seem to be stressed or in any trouble.

On Monday, Cope was found in Virginia Beach, in a parking garage close to the oceanfront on 9th Street. A police officer took Cope to the Sentara Virginia Beach Hospital, and according to her friend, she is still there. She was listed in “good” condition, but she refused to talk to the media about the incident. A police report indicated that Cope told officers that she had no money and was waiting on her parents to pick her up.

A close friend, Sarah Kosinski, said that Cope was stressed with life and felt like she needed to get away. Kosinski also asked for privacy for her friend, now that she’s been found and is recovering.

“She is the light of our lives and we are thankful to have her back. We appreciate all the help and support from the community and we ask for privacy.”

Kosinski’s comment has left numerous people who followed the story wondering how Cope is doing, while others weren’t so happy with the update, and wanted more answers. Reporter Tim Pulliam with ABC11 even stopped by Cope’s home, where he spotted her car, but left with no answers.
