A Thursday morning stabbing incident at a Loganville, Georgia, home left four children and one adult dead, police confirm.
WSB-TV reports that one child and a mother were the only survivors in what police are calling a “horrendous stabbing” off of Emory Lane on early Thursday morning at around 4:30 a.m.. The mother was detained for questioning while the only surviving child was rushed to the hospital in serious condition. The other family members were pronounced dead after they were stabbed several times.

Although no one has been officially charged in the incident, Gwinnett County Police Department spokesperson, Michele Pihera, said that authorities feel they have everyone involved in the crime detained.
“I don’t want anybody in this community to think that we’ve got a mad person running around trying to stab somebody,” Pihera said.
The children’s ages haven’t been released yet, but a neighbor said they are “babies,” with the youngest being a toddler and the oldest being a 7-year-old.

The mother is the primary person of interest in the stabbings, but so far, according to Pihera, authorities have no idea why she would stab her own family.
“But what her motivations are for committing this horrendous crime, we still don’t know,” Cpl. Michele Pihera said. “It’s still under investigation.”
Neighbors told police that family recently located to Georgia from Illinois.
