Police have arrested a married couple, who each work as school superintendents, and charged one with child rape and the other with child endangerment, as reported by Daily Mail.
Heather and Patrick O’Donnell, from Bellefontaine, Ohio, were both taken in to police custody on Tuesday. Patrick, 52, was indicted on 14 charges including raping a child under the age of 13, gross sexual imposition and sexual battery. Heather, 44, is being charged with two counts of child endangerment.
Patrick, the superintendent for Lake Local Schools, allegedly raped a 10-year-old girl on multiple occasions and his wife knew about it and did not alert authorities, according to police.
Authorities allege that the 52-year-old touched the girl inappropriately, including her private parts. The victim told police that this had occurred several times over a three-year span, according to the Springfield News-Sun. Investigators have not announced the identity of the alleged victim or her relationship to the accused.
The police affidavit also alleges that the victim told Heather O’Donnell about the abuse on at least two separate occasions and she did nothing to help, though she did allegedly confront her husband.
“(Heather O’Donnell) told me that she had confronted Mr. O’Donnell about it and he downplayed the incidents as accidents that may have happened while wrestling,” said Washington Township Police Chief Rick Core.
The couple has six children between them. Authorities have yet to announce what will happen to these six kids.
Lake Local Schools confirmed Patrick had been placed on unpaid administrative leave and will soon be terminated. It is unclear as to whether or not his wife will face the same treatment.
Police Chief Rick Core has noted that he does not believe that there are any other victims.
