A two-year old California boy has died and his stepmother is in custody on child abuse charges.
According to CBS 13, Jaxson Love, 2, died last week after he was rushed to a Sacramento hospital with head injuries. It is not yet known exactly how he was fatally injured, but his stepmother, Chalsey Maynard has been arrested on multiple charges including child abuse resulting in death.
Love’s mother, Brittany Gonzalez, told the news station on Sunday that she shared custody of Jaxson with the boy’s father, and that he told her last week that Jaxson had been hurt in a minor trampoline accident.
“He told me that basically, he had a trampoline accident. He fell but was completely fine. Woke in the morning, which would be Wednesday morning, and he was fine then. I guess at 12 o’clock, he had a bath and I guess he took a nap afterward and dad, I guess went out and did some errands and left the baby with his wife.”
When the boy’s father returned home, he found the toddler unresponsive. Doctors at the Children’s Hospital in Oakland reportedly found that he had broken ribs and was bleeding in the brain.
He was placed on life support but later died.

Maynard has been charged with child abuse endangerment, infliction of great bodily injury, corporal injury to a child, and child abuse resulting in death.
Gonzalez is still looking for answers about how her happy, warm-hearted son died.
“My son deserves the truth. My son deserves justice,” Gonzalez told CBS 13.
In honor of the little boy’s generous spirit, the family has arranged to donate his organs so that he can continue helping other people.
