Pregnant mom shot in the face in front of infant daughter; suspect on the loose

Authorities are still searching for the person who fattally shot a pregnant Tennessee woman in front of her infant daughter last Monday, and are asking the public’s assistance.

Johnson City Press reports that authorities identified the victim as Rebekah Thompson, 22, also known by her birth name, Stacy Magee. Police said the young mother was shot at point-blank range in the face while at 1008 John Exum Parkway, in Johnson City. The incident occurred at around 9:30 p.m as Thompson waited for a friend while sitting in the driver’s seat of a white vehicle.

Witnesses told authorities that a black male wearing a red and black hoodie was seen in the area 15 minutes before the shooting occurred. He apparently left the area briefly, then returned driving a car with tinted windows. Witnesses said that the vehicle looked like a Ford Focus. The suspect pulled up to Thompson’s car, got out, walked up to the victim, shot her once in the face, then fled the scene in his car.

Later, police officers searched Johnson’s Keystone community apartment, at 404 S. Broadway St., but didn’t find anything that could help them determine the suspect’s identity. Neighbors said Johnson had only lived in the community for a few months and mostly kept to herself.

Johnson City Police Sgt. Mike Adams said that authorities currently have leads, but they’re looking for anyone who may have videos of the night in question.

“We have leads and we’re looking for any kind of video, we’re looking for different types of vehicles we think might be involved and we have some persons of interest we’re following up on.”
