Controversial former adult film star Mia Khalifa has revealed she was threatened by ISIS early on in her adult film career, as reported by CBS DC.
During an interview with a Washington, D.C. radio station Thursday, Khalifa, 24, claimed the jihadist group would send her death threats through social media.
“They photoshopped a picture of me being beheaded and threatened that that would happen to me,” the former adult actress recalled.
Though the situation did worry her, Khalifa said she appeared unphased “because you can’t show weakness.”
“That’s exactly what they’re looking for. I really try and just make it look like it rolls off, but I’ll admit, it gets to you after a while,” she added
Khalifa, a Christian born in Beirut, Lebanon, drew criticism in January 2015 for performing in an adult video while wearing a hijab, a veil worn by Muslim woman. At that time, she claimed the film was satirical, according to The Washington Post.
“There are Hollywood movies that depict Muslims in a much worse manner than any scene Bang Bros [the company who made the video] could produce,” she said.
While Khalifa opined that the Middle East has bigger issues than how she chooses to present herself, she claims it still hurt when she read that she had shamed her country and that she should kill herself.
“Hearing that my home country hates me stings more than anything else,” she added. “What I once boasted to people as being the most Westernized-nation in the Middle East, I now see as devastatingly archaic and oppressed.”
congratulations, Middle East. What the threats have resorted to: “@UsainAnnan: @miakhalifa coming soon
