BREAKING: Location scout shot and killed while working on hit Netflix series

A location scout for a popular Netflix series has reportedly been shot and killed while on a scouting trip in Mexico.

Variety reports that Carlos Muñoz Portal was scouting for the upcoming season of the Netflix cartel drama Narcos in central Mexico when he was shot multiple times. The report indicates he may have been in his car at the time of the apparent murder.

Portal’s dead body was reportedly found near the border of Hidalgo state, known for having the highest murder rate in Mexico. Variety reports that 182 people were killed there last year.

The victim had been shot multiple times, and his car also had bullet holes.

Authorities have not yet released any details about a potential motive or suspects.

Netflix released a statement in response to the tragic news:

We are aware of the passing of Carlos Muñoz Portal, a well-respected location scout, and send our condolences to his family. The facts surrounding his death are still unknown as authorities continue to investigate.

Portal was a highly respected and sought-after location scout with credits that include the films Sicario and Fast & Furious. A Facebook page belonging to a man who appears to be the victim indicates he left to small children behind.
