Woman shoots boyfriend in his sleep, chops his body up with a machete: Police

‘She played the role of an innocent person, and she played it to the fullest. Devil.’

Authorities arrested a Texas woman on Thursday and charged her with murder after she allegedly killed her boyfriend and chopped up his deceased body with a machete.

KHOU reports that on August 16, 2017, Cierra Alexis Sutton, 30, allegedly shot 32-year-old Steven Coleman to death while he slept in his bedroom at the Briarwood Village Apartments in Baytown.

Detectives said that Sutton and Coleman apparently got involved in a heated dispute with each other, which led to a traumatic ending after Sutton crept up on her sleeping boyfriend and shot him in the head. Afterwards, she reportedly chopped up his body and threw the parts into various dumpsters and dump sites across Baytown. A few people told authorities that Sutton admitted to killing Coleman and reportedly claimed that she chopped him up because he was too heavy for her to lift.

Mikki Rogers, a downstairs neighbor, said Sutton denied killing Coleman in public and even called 911 to report him missing a few days after the murder.

“She acted like she knew nothing about anything. She was trying to call him, hadn’t heard from him. Family members didn’t get a response,” said Rogers.

According to investigators, someone used Coleman’s credit card at a Walmart just days after he disappeared. Surveillance footage at the store showed someone who closely resembled Sutton purchasing duct tape and a mattress pad.

On August 22, authorities found a torso of a male in a Baytown landfill. The torso hasn’t yet been positively identified as Coleman’s, but authorities noted that it matched his description. Sutton fled the state afterwards. On September 14, police arrested her at an apartment in Louisiana.

Coleman’s friend, Dominique Clark, told ABC7 that Sutton had the mind of a “devil” who tried to play an innocent victim after reportedly murdering her own boyfriend.

“She played the role of an innocent person….She played the role of an innocent person, and she played it to the fullest. Devil. That’s the mind of a bad spirit. That’s not a normal mind. That’s not a mind of God. That’s not one of God’s children.”

Sutton remains behind bars on murder charges. Her first court yet is not yet scheduled.
