‘Mom’ charged with murder after babies left home alone found dead with stove burns

A Georgia mother is accused of killing her two infant sons after police found burn marks on the boys’ dead bodies Friday, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Prosecutors charged Lamora Williams, 24, with murder in connection with the deaths of the children, 1-year-old Ja’Karter Penn and 2-year-old Ke’Yaunte Penn.

Police responded to Williams’ Atlanta apartment around 11:30 p.m. Friday for an injured person call. When officers arrived, they found the boys dead with burns potentially from a stove.

Authorities removed the stove for additional investigation.

Williams reportedly claimed at first that she left the children with a caregiver, but investigators came to doubt that story.

The suspect police that she left the kids with a cousin around noon and then got back to the apartment at 11:30 p.m., when she claimed she discovered the kids bodies and that the caregiver nowhere to be found.

“The mother said she left the kids there with the female relative,” Atlanta Police Lt. Carven Tyus said. “Upon her arrival back, the female relative wasn’t there, and the kids were alone.”

Neighbors told WSB-TV that Williams had previously left the children home alone.

Jameel Penn, the boys’ father, identified the children. An official cause of death has not yet been released, but autopsies were planned.

A third child, a 3-year-old boy, was reportedly found alive at the apartment. He was not injured.

From what investigators have gleaned during the initial investigation, they believe they have probable cause to charge Williams with two counts of murder.

Williams has been booked into jail and is scheduled to make a court appearance on Monday.
