Mom ‘prays on it’, then strangles little boy on Halloween night: Police

A Washington mother admitted to authorities on Wednesday that she strangled her little boy on Halloween night to “save him,” according to Kitsap County detectives.

Fox Q13 reports that Amber Rose called 911 a few days before Halloween and complained that she saw cars and airplanes following her. A few days later on Halloween morning, the boy’s father called 911 and reported that his son, Ryan Rosales, had blue lips and red spots across his face. The father also reported that he smelled gas in the family home, located near Wildcat Lake, outside Silverdale.

Paramedics arrived on the scene shortly after the father called, but the boy was already deceased. Authorities labeled the victim’s death as an “obvious homicidal violence.”

While speaking to the father, authorities learned that after he got out of the shower on Halloween morning, he noticed all four burners on the stove were on. When he confronted Rose, she denied turning the burners on, but the father noticed scratch marks across her neck. The boy’s father said he opened the windows in the home, then checked on his son, who was unconscious and cool to the touch.

“This was a situation that needed to be turned over to detectives because there was just something about the situation that did not look right,” said Kitsap County sheriff’s deputy Scott Wilson.

Inside the home, authorities found disturbing writings on a wall that read, “No pedo,” “Michael=Devil,” Greed kills,” “sex trade,” “God is coming,” “Spaywar,” and “Harvest.”

Detectives took Rose to the Port Orchard sheriff’s office to question her, and found her with two cloves of garlic, a vial of holy water, and two lighters. She told authorities that she had to “say a prayer for my baby” with the holy water.

Concerned for her mental health, detectives transported Rose to a medical facility for a mental evaluation. According to court records, Rose, while sitting at a local hospital, reportedly told a deputy without any prompting that she had to strangle her son to protect him from people after them.

“While at the hospital and unsolicited by Deputy Trout, Amber told Deputy Trout that she needed to save her son from people that were after us, needed to protect him. She had described (the boy) as the best kid in the world. She stated she had prayed, thought about it, cried and then put her hands around his throat so he couldn’t breathe any longer.

“Amber then asked Deputy Trout, ‘How do I explain to someone why I just … killed my kid? What is a good explanation of that? I killed my … kid.’ Deputy Trout stated Amber did not cry or have any tears.”

Court documents indicate that aside from medication for anxiety, Rose hasn’t been diagnosed with a mental illness. Authorities arrested her on a second-degree murder charge and took her to the Kitsap County jail, where she remains on a $1 million bond.
