Family and friends look for new options three weeks into search for missing California teen

Three weeks after his disappearance, there’s still no trace of 19-year-old Jann Derrick Lactawen, and his family hopes a private investigator can help.

According to the East Bay Times, the San Lorenzo, California, man was last seen at his home on the morning of October 22.

He reportedly told his parents he planned to “chill” in San Francisco later that day, but did not pack a bag to take with him.

The same afternoon, records show he took public transportation and exited at a station on Montgomery Street in San Francisco. He has not been heard from since.

His family said the 5-foot 7-inch teen weighed about 110 pounds and has brown eyes and black hair. He was last seen wearing a black cap, white T-shirt and black shorts.

The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the disappearance and is asking anyone with information regarding Lactawen’s whereabouts to call 510-667-7721.

His parents are also taking an active role in the search, hoping that by securing the services of a private investigator the case would have a better chance of being solved.

An online fundraiser has been posted to GoFundMe to help the family fund the investigation.

“The family has hired a Private Investigator at AAA Discreet Investigations in San Francisco,” the post states. “However, Jann Derrick’s trail is very cold….and it’s only getting colder. We are running out of time and money.”

Since Lactawen is a young adult, the family noted that authorities are not assigning high priority to his disappearance, which could have been voluntary.

“This kind of individualized attention CAN make a difference versus waiting for the police to act. They are under staffed and under funded,” the GoFundMe post concluded.
