‘I knew that man was unstable’: Vegan author reportedly kills wife, two kids on Christmas Day [UPDATE]

An Arizona man is behind bars after police say he shot and killed his former wife on Christmas Day, as well his two young children.

CBS reports that Anthony Ross, 45, allegedly shot his wife dead at an upscale apartment complex in Phoenix on Monday, off of 16th Street and Highland Avenue, as she tried to run away from him. When police arrive, they found the victim in the parking lot of the apartment complex, dead from gunshot wounds.

Ross barricaded himself inside an apartment with two children, an 11-year-old boy and a 10-month-old girl. Authorities spent hours trying to persuade him out of the apartment, but when they learned he also killed the children, they took measures to detain him.

One of the responding officers was shot during the standoff, but police reported that officer was taken to a local hospital in stable condition. Ross was captured alive and taken to the Maricopa County jail. Both children were found dead inside the apartment.

Ross was a vegan chef, author, and motivational speaker. The victims killed were his son, Nigel; daughter, Anora; and wife, Iris Ross, 38.

Merry Christmas Everybody!

According to ABC, court documents indicate that the suspect sent a text message Iris’ sister, Mary Wogas, informing her that he killed his wife.

“I received a text yesterday about 2:52 p.m. Two messages, first one saying ‘I just killed Iris and the kids’. The second message was ‘with a gun’,” said Wogas. “I knew that man was very unstable. I knew he had a very, very dark side..I didn’t know it was this dark.”

Wogas suspect started acting differently when Ross divorced him in June.

“The man was off his rocker. One minute he was yelling at her, calling her a “whore”, and the next minute wanting to tell her he loved her and wanted them to be a family unit. He would also claim that he was working with a voodoo priest in New Orleans to put a hex on her. Just very, very dark, very dark intentions.”

Ross remains behind bars facing numerous charges, including three counts of first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated assault, 19 counts of aggravated assault against an officer, and one count of discharging a firearm in city limits. He remains behind bars without bail. His next scheduled court hearing is on Jan. 3.
