The FBI is investigating following reports that KKK flyers attacking slain civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. were left at multiple homes in Loudoun County, Virginia.
WJLA reported that the flyers–which officials are calling “KKK propaganda”–were wrapped in plastic and weighed down by hard candy. Loudoun County police said they received more than a dozen reports about the unsettling leaflets but believe that much more was distributed over the weekend.
Police declined to release images of the flyers, citing an ongoing investigation. However, local media obtained images of the supposed flyers, which show the civil rights leader’s mugshot above the caption, “On Martin Luther King Day…..You Are Honoring a Communist Alcoholic Pervert.”
These fliers appear to be from the KKK– they were left in a neighborhood in Leesburg.

“The timing of it we think was pre-emptively planned by this individual or individuals that are doing this, specifically to target this weekend because it’s an upcoming holiday and specifically because it honors the legacy of a great man that once existed,” Leesburg police spokesman Sam Shenouda told WTOP.
Shenouda also claimed that the flyers appear to have been randomly distributed and that the person or persons who disseminated the papers targeted an area with low foot traffic and a low police presence.
The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office revealed that Leesburg and Purcellville police departments– in addition to the FBI–are working to determine who is behind the flyers.
This is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information concerning this case is instructed to contact the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office at 703-777-1021.
