DEVELOPING: Multiple fatalities in helicopter crash in New York City’s East River

Multiple people have been reported dead after a helicopter crashed into the East River in New York City on Sunday night.

There are conflicting reports on the number of casualties, but it appears that at least two people have died. A social media account connected to the NYPD reported five dead, but a CBS News report and an Associated Press report said that five people were on board the helicopter and at least one had been rescued.

According to the CBS News report, the helicopter crashed just north of Roosevelt Island, parallel to Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Divers and additional rescue crews are reportedly on the scene. The helicopter was reportedly registered to Meridian Consulting in New Jersey.
