Man shoots himself before executing ex-wife in front of horrified mall shoppers: Cops

Authorities in California have identified the two individuals shot, one fatally, in an incident that occurred at a busy shopping center.

According to the series of events described by police, 33-year-old Kevin Crane is believed to have shot himself first upon entering the Paper Source, a retailer at the shopping mall, before turning the gun on his ex-wife.

The pair had children together, according to Ventura County Sheriff’s Sgt. Eric Boschow.

“Their children are fine,” he said. “They’ve been located at this time.”

Victim Parisa Siddiqi, 29, was working at the store at the time of the shooting, as reported by KABC.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, the incident happened at the Oaks Shopping Center in Thousand Oaks at around 3 p.m. Saturday.

According to KNBC, an argument between the two reportedly precipitated the shooting.

Police soon secured the mall, which remained on lockdown for about an hour as many frightened shoppers attempted to exit or hide amid what they thought was an active-shooter situation.

The scene was soon described as “static” by Ventura County firefighters and police attempted to assure locals that there was no active threat related to the shooting.

In a tweet shortly after news of the shooting began to circulate, Thousand Oaks police shared an update seeking to reassure concerned individuals by reporting that the “situation is contained and there is no threat to the public.”

Crane survived his gunshot wound and was transported to an area hospital where he was listed in critical condition as of the latest updates available. Siddiqi reportedly died at the scene.
