Dead body found in wall of women’s bathroom in shopping center

A maintenance worker at a shopping center in Canada found a dead body behind a wall in a public restroom.

CTV News reports that the worker found a body Monday morning after removing a wall panel in a women’s bathroom to at the CORE shopping center in Calgary to work on flushing mechanism.

“If you were to look at the toilet, there’s a panel behind it, so that when people move it would automatically flush,” Calgary police spokesperson Emma Poole reportedly told The Canadian Press. “When they removed that panel, they found a deceased person behind that wall.”

The deceased person has not been identified, though authorities have determined it is an adult male. And they do not believe at this time that the person died as a result of homicide.

“Despite the circumstances of where the body was located, investigators do not suspect foul play and the death remains classified as undetermined,” the Calgary Police Service said in a statement obtained by CTV News.

“Police can confirm that the body located is an adult male, however, the victim’s identity and cause of death is still being determined.”

Poole told the news outlet that it’s possible the man died accidentally as he was calling through a vent or duct, and fell.

“That would be the most logical … that it was from above,” Poole reportedly told The Canadian Press.

“That is obviously something they would be looking at is someone crawling through the ventilation system.”

An autopsy is scheduled for this week.
