It’s been a little over a month since a 5-year-old autistic boy from Tennessee disappeared, and although the child’s father reportedly admitted to killing him, he hasn’t led authorities to the correct location of the boy’s body, according to officials.
FOX 17 reports that Joseph Daniels, father of Joe Clyde Daniels, allegedly led detectives to the wrong areas on several occasions while they searched for the boy.
“He sent us to several locations, none have panned out,” a spokesperson for the Dickson County Sheriff’s Office told the station.
Without Joe Clyde’s body, a murder conviction against Daniels could prove to be difficult, according to attorney Jim Todd, who isn’t involved in the case, but has followed it closely.
“[It’s going to] be a tough case without a body. Here they are going to have to prove he’s dead because he’s not here.”
The case could become even more difficult if Daniels recants his earlier confession. Several people in the suspect’s family claimed authorities coerced Daniels into a confession.
“If he denies it and there’s no evidence then it is a very circumstantial case,” Todd added. “The defense attorney will move to have the statement thrown out. If they are unsuccessful then the defendant has to testify and say even though I said I did it… I didn’t do it.”
As CrimeOnline previously reported, during an early morning 911 call on April 4, Daniels calmly told a dispatch operator that his son Joe Clyde Daniels was missing from their Dickson home. Initially, police had no reason to believe Daniels harmed the little boy but after two days of intense searching, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) announced that Daniels admitted that he killed his son.

Krystal Nicole Daniels, the mother of 5-year-old Joe Clyde Daniels was already arrested in connection with her son’s death after a joint effort investigation between the Dickson County Sheriff’s Office and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
Krystal Nicole Daniels is charged with felony “Aggravated Child Neglect or Endangerment” while Joseph Daniels is charged with homicide. Both suspects are behind bars on a $1 million bail each. Their next scheduled court appearance is on June 1.
