Man kills daughter and another relative, injures several others by plowing SUV into restaurant: Cops

Authorities in North Carolina say two people were killed and “several others” were injured when a man drove a vehicle into a restaurant on Sunday.

According to Fox News, one of the victims was Gaston County Sheriff’s Office Cpl. Kate Self.

The other victim killed in the collision was reportedly related to Self and multiple other members of her family were among the injured. Investigators believe the deadly incident was “domestic” in nature.

Officials have since identified the driver of the SUV as Kate Self’s father, Roger Self, as reported by the Gaston Gazette.

He allegedly accompanied his family into the restaurant and was seated with the victims prior to retreating to his Jeep and crashing it through the wall.

Investigators say the incident occurred shortly after noon on Sunday at the Surf and Turf Lodge in Bessemer City, about 30 miles west of Charlotte. When officers arrived on the scene, they reported the vehicle was found “completely inside the building.”

Two victims were rushed from the scene to nearby medical facilities, according to police. It was unclear from initial reports how many casualties were involved in the incident or whether they were all related to the suspect.

Roger Self was described by local media outlets as a businessman from Dallas, North Carolina. He was reportedly arrested at the scene, though specific charges were not included in an initial statement from police.
