Searchers discover blanket of missing autistic boy, Joe Clyde Daniels

Search crews in Tennessee found a blanket on Wednesday that a family member confirmed belonged to missing but presumed dead boy, Joe Clyde Daniels.

FOX Nashville reports that 5-year-old Joe Clyde’s blanket was discovered on Wednesday afternoon along CCC Road in Dickson, not far from where the little boy disappeared from on April 4. The boy’s father, Joseph Ray Daniels, who reportedly admitted to beating the boy to death for urinating on the floor, has led authorities to at least six different locations, but they didn’t find a trace of the boy in any of the areas until the discovery of the blanket.

Investigators plan to continue searching Dickson over the weekend, as well as Hickman County. Sheriff Jeff Bledsoe said they’ll use as many resources as possible to find Joe Clyde. The blanket is currently undergoing forensic testing.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, Daniels was arrested and charged with homicide a few days after calling 911 to report his son missing. The TBI announced that they believe Daniels killed his son on the night of April 3 or early morning of April 4. Police booked Daniels into the Dickson County Jail on $1 million bond.

“During the course of the investigation, it was determined the child’s father Joseph Daniels intentionally killed his son in his residence and then hid his body,” TBI deputy director Jason Locke said.

According to a recorded confession, Daniels admitted to beating little Joe with closed fists after his son reportedly urinated on a floor inside him home. Daniels claimed that little Joe “laughed” about the incident, which enraged him to the point of beating him. Joe Clyde ran from his father and into a nearby street but Daniels retrieved him, brought him back inside the home, and beat him until the boy died, according to court documents.

Daniles then allegedly put Joe Clyde in the trunk of a vehicle and dumped him in a remote area.

Around five days later, Krystal Nicole Daniels, Joe Clyde’s mother, admitted she was in the residence off of Garners Creek Road in Dickson when the child’s father beat the boy to death. She’s accused of failing to report the crime and taking steps to conceal the little boy’s abuse and death.

Krystal Nicole Daniels is charged with felony “Aggravated Child Neglect or Endangerment.” She’s being held on a $1 million bond. Last week, both parents were indicted by a grand jury, with a trial date set tentatively in March.

TBI reported they found blood on the clothing the father wore when Joe Clyde disappeared. They also found blood in the console area of the vehicle allegedly used to dispose of Joe Clyde’s body.
