UPDATE: Police find car involved in fatal shooting of 10-year-old girl—but masked gunmen remain at large

Police in Washington, D.C. announced they’ve found a car related to Monday’s shooting outside an apartment complex that left a 10-year-old girl dead—but the gunmen remain on the run.

According to ABC News, the suspects’ car was found in Prince George’s County, Maryland. Surveillance cameras caught the black four-door sedan pulling up to  Clay Terrace Apartments’ courtyard before four masked men exit the vehicle and open fire, killing Makiyah Wilson and injuring four adults.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, about 15 to 20 people were outside at a nearby playground at the time of the shooting. Wilson was reportedly wounded in the chest while heading to an ice cream truck. She was pronounced dead at a short time later.

“I held my baby,” mother Donetta Wilson recalled her daughter’s last moments to WRC. “The whole time she just kept saying, ‘Mommy, calm down. It’s burning.'”

Police said more than 60 shots were fired on the night in question. One of the four adult shooting victims sustained serious injuries, their relatives told The Washington Post.

A motive for Monday’s shooting remains unclear.

This is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information regarding the fatal July 16 shooting at Clay Terrace Apartments can call police at 202-727-9099 or text 50411.
