Shooting spree leaves five dead, including gunman, at his home and nearby nursing facility: Cops

A Texas man fatally shot two individuals living at his home in Robstown this week before traveling to a nursing home in the same town and killing three more, including himself, police say.

According to WLWT, the incident concluded Friday evening at the Retama Manor Nursing Center, a facility with nearly 100 patient beds.

In addition to the gunman, police say a man and a woman were “dead on arrival” when authorities arrived.

A statement on the shooting sought to reassure locals by declaring the “threat neutralized.”

Authorities discovered the bodies of two other victims at the nearby residence, according to Robstown City Secretary Herman Rodriguez.

Investigators believe the two scenes were related in the gunman’s mind. It was unclear from initial reports whether police believe they know the gunman’s motive.

Robstown Police Chief Erasmo Flores expressed sympathy for the victims and their loved ones.

“Our hearts go out to the victims’ families and the residents, visitors and employees at Retama Manor who experienced this tragedy,” he said.

Nearby residents told local reporters that they noticed police swarm the area near the retirement home on Friday with their weapons drawn, according to a breaking report by KZTV late Friday evening.

As of the latest reports available, investigators said the case remained open.
