AMBER Alert: Little girl and grandmother remain missing after police arrest ‘infatuated’ suspect

Police say both are in extreme danger

A Virginia man said to be infatuated with the grandmother of a young girl was captured by police on Tuesday, but the child and grandmother remain missing.

The Washington Post reports that Virginia authorities issued an AMBER Alert on Tuesday for 12-year-old Angie Carolina Rodriguez Rubio after she disappeared from Harrisburg on Sunday, off of the 2800 block of South Main Street. The girl’s grandmother, 48-year-old Elizabeth Rodriguez Rubio, is also missing.

Elizabeth and her granddaughter were last seen on Sunday at the Life Song Church in Dukes Plaza at around 1:30 p.m. Their family reportedly searched for the pair themselves before contacting authorities.

According to the Virginia State Police, suspect Hareton Jaime Rodriguez-Sariol, a man with an alleged “ history of infatuation” with the grandmother, abducted the pair. Authorities arrested Rodriguez-Sariol on Tuesday, in Lackawanna, Pennsylvania, shortly after the first vehicle he was reportedly traveling in “caught on fire” in Warren County.

“The abductor’s vehicle in which they were all believed to be traveling in was involved in a vehicle fire on I-66 in Warren County,” the AMBER Alert noted.

Police later found Rodriguez-Sariol in a white 2000 Volvo tractor trailer, but there were no signs of Angie and her grandmoher. Investigators are currently searching the tractor trailer, owned by AMG Express, for evidence and information. HPD Lt. Pete Ritchie Ritchie said the vehicle was likely stolen.

Angie is a Hispanic female who stands 5-feet-1-inches tall and weighs around 112 pounds. She has brown eyes and brown hair and was last see  wearing white sandals, a black shirt with flowers, and white sandals.

Elizabeth is Hispanic female who stands 5-feet-4-inches tall and weighs 140 pounds. She has black hair and brown eyes. Elizabeth was last seen wearing a black skirt and burgundy shirt.

Anyone with information on their whereabouts is urged to contact the Harrisonburg Police Department at 540-574-5050 or the Virginia State Police at 800-822-4453.

Police said both the girl and her grandmother could be in extreme danger.
