Former Pinnacle CEO shot dead in Memphis: Officials

The former president and CEO of Pinnacle Airlines was killed Thursday night in Tennessee, police say.

Officials said Philip Trenary, 64, was fatally shot at about 8 p.m. at the 500 block of South Front Street in downtown Memphis, NY Post reports. Trenary also served as CEO of the Greater Memphis Chamber since 2014, when he stepped down from his position at Pinnacle, according to Commercial Appeal.

Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland confirmed the CEO’s death through a tweet.

“Like many of you, I’m shocked at the senseless loss tonight of Phil Trenary, a leader in our community. More than anything in these hours, my thoughts are with his family and his Chamber colleagues. I’m in close contact with MPD, which is leading a thorough investigation.”

The suspect in the shooting is described as a black male, wearing a blue shirt and driving a white four-door Ford F150 with an extended cab, according to authorities.

The investigation is still ongoing. Anyone with information pertinent to the tragic case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH.
