SEE IT: Mom’s ‘friend’ leaves toddler boy on random doorstep, takes off before someone answers door

Police in Texas are investigating after a home surveillance camera reportedly caught a woman leaving a 2-year-old boy on a doorstep and taking off without him.

The 23-second video, which was shot Wednesday in front of a home in Spring, apparently shows a woman lifting the child by the arm before ringing the doorbell and knocking on the door. She’s then seen running back to a white vehicle—leaving the toddler behind with two bags.

A woman who lived at the home called 911 at around 8:30 p.m. after she found the child alone on her doorstep, according to KTRK. Child Protective Services responded to the scene and took custody of the boy until he could be reunited with family.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office has since located the boy’s father and learned that the child’s mother had asked a friend to drop off her son at his father’s. KTVU reported that the friend was the woman seen leaving the child before anyone answered the door.

The father identified the boy in the video as Prince Simmons. He told KTRK that he lived next door to the home where his son was left on Wednesday.

Police said the child was uninjured and in good health. Lieutenant Scott Spencer confirmed the mother was being hospitalized and was discharged Thursday morning, according to ABC News. Spencer said the father claimed he received a text from the mother saying that her friend would be dropping off their son at his place on Wednesday afternoon.

The mother’s friend has been identified and is facing child endangerment charges.
