Police in Britain are reportedly searching for a thief who bears a striking resemblance to Ross from the television sitcom Friends.
Per the Liverpool Echo, Blackpool police took to Facebook this week to post CCTV images where the suspect is apparently seen hauling a crate of beer. However, police’s call to action was quickly drowned out by comments highlighting that their perp favored actor David Schwimmer.
“Thank you to everyone for your speedy responses,” the police department responded, bombarded with references to the hit television show. “We have investigated this matter thoroughly and have confirmed David Schwimmer was in America on this date. We’re so sorry it has to be this way.”
The post quickly went viral, leading Schwimmer, 51, to post a video of himself sneaking through a store with beer in tow. He also denied having any involvement in the alleged theft.
“Officers, I swear it wasn’t me. As you can see, I was in New York. To the hardworking Blackpool Police, good luck with the investigation.#itwasntme,” the actor tweeted.
While the BBC reported that the man bought the beer he was filmed carrying, he’s accused of stealing from Mr. Basrai’s restaurant on September 20. Police said the celebrity lookalike is wanted for theft of a jacket, wallet, and mobile from the restaurant.
