The news station reported that a pickup driven by Alyssa Shepherd, 24, struck the children while they stood at the Tippecanoe Valley bus stop near State Road 25. Police told ABC News that the children were crossing a two-lane road to get to their school bus in the north lane when they were struck by the pickup, which was traveling south at the time.
Indiana State Police Sergeant Tony Slocum said the bus had its emergency lights on and stop-arm out when the children were hit. He said Shepherd stayed at the scene and has submitted to a blood test which will determine whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the fatal crash.
