Man rapes 16-month-old baby, leads police on interstate manhunt after he’s added to Most Wanted list: Cops

Authorities in Tennessee say a man on the state’s 10 most wanted list has been arrested on suspicion of raping a 16-month-old baby.

According to The Tennessean, 33-year-old Simon Dean Porter was arrested Sunday in Scottsboro, Alabama.

A police investigation originating in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, linked Porter to the allegations of aggravated rape.

Personnel at Vanderbilt University Medical Center contacted local authorities last week to report the suspected abuse.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigations quickly placed the suspect on its most wanted list, offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to his apprehension.

“Simon Dean Porter is wanted by the Lawrenceburg Police Department and the Tennessee Burau of Investigation for Aggravated Rape of a Child,” the agency announced. Porter is possibly traveling in a 1997 green-colored Chevy S-10 pickup truck with a red tailgate, and TN license plate 3G26Z9.”

The Demand Project later added another $1,000 to the reward money being offered.

As WKRN reported, Porter’s mother urged him to surrender and proclaimed his innocence in a public statement.

“Son, please bring yourself in,” Barbara Wright said. “I love you so much son, I don’t want you to get hurt. I don’t want nothing to happen to you. Do the right thing. You know you didn’t do this, please bring yourself in. Prove to them you are innocent.”

The TBI tweeted on Sunday that authorities in a neighboring state had located and arrested the wanted man.

“UPDATE: Simon Porter is now in custody,” authorities announced. “He was located and arrested in Scottsboro, Alabama. Thank you for helping us spread the word!”
