Ocala Police reported a suspect was arrested and transported to a local hospital for treatment of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He had not been identified as of the latest reports available but was described as a 55-year-old black male.

Authorities in Florida are on the hunt for a man suspected of fatally shooting a woman at a Walmart near the Silver Springs State Park this weekend.

According to WFTV, Ocala investigators responded to the Garden Center of the retailer at about 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.

After officers arrived, they reported that a man and woman had been arguing before the woman ran into the store screaming for help.

The Ocala Police Department posted an update on Twitter as officers were still on the scene.

“We are currently on scene at the Walmart located on E. Silver Springs Blvd. in reference to an active shooter,” the agency reported. “Information will be updated her as available for release.”

Subsequent updates described the incident as a domestic argument that turned violent.

“Walmart personnel called 911 and attempted to intervene,” police tweeted. “The male shot the female, fled the scene, and is at large.”

Authorities later confirmed that they had identified the suspected shooter.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene but had not been identified as of the latest updates available as officials attempted to notify her family.
